Texas State Rep. Hubert Vo (D-Houston) confirms that he has completed structural and electrical repairs at two of his apartment communities. In doing so, he corrected conditions that prompted code enforcement citations earlier this spring, replacing rotting wood, missing balcony railings and exposed wires. All of his apartment communities now meet code requirements, reports Susan McMillian, an executive staff analyst with the Department of Public Works and Engineering. Vo has vowed to continue working with residents and managers to improve conditions. He states, "I told the city that I would take care of their concerns, and I worked as quickly as possible to make all the needed repairs." Vo's Republican rival, Greg Meyers, begs to differ. He counters, "It's obvious that these blighted properties have been a problem for years. Only after media scrutiny has Vo made any attempt to repair [them]."
